Welcome to my website, created with the purpose of widely sharing my knowledge. My name is Irene Fernandez Villegas and I currently teach and do research at the Delft University of Technology (Faculty of Aerospace Engineering). My expertise lies within the field of manufacturing of high-performance structures. I discovered my interest on this area during my early years as an engineering student, when I realised that the limitations to advanced designs do not reside in our brains but in the properties of existing materials and what we are able to produce with them. I am passionate about pushing research to the limits of what is considered impossible and I am deeply rewarded when I see the spark of scientific curiosity awaken in the eyes of my students, the researchers of the future.
